Stock Motors

Did the 454 come stock in the Nova? (If no, what did other than the 350) and if yes, what years?

Re: Stock Motors

Wasn't it really something that in 68, 69 and 70 the same car was available with a 4 cylinder motor, two versions of the 6 cylinder, three or four versions of the small block V-8 and two of the big block V-8? Include the several transmission choices (at LEAST four each year) and we had more power train options than we are likely to ever see again.

If only I could perfect that time machine...

Re: Stock Motors

You seem like you know a lot about the Nova. Want to share any info.? I plan on buying one. My favorite year was the 74. For no particular reason except the body style. Your perfect Nova would have what motor and what powertrain?

Re: Stock Motors

I own a 74 Nova (L-48 350), which I couldn't pass up because it only had 14,XXX miles on it when I found it with the original owner. 73 and 74 had the larger crash bumpers and lower factory HP (compared to 68-72) which makes them slightly less desirable, and SHOULD be able to be found at a slightly lower cost.

The top motor for 74 was a 4 barrel 350 which was rated at 185. (10 MORE than 73, and more than any later Nova) It is code L-48 on the build sheet, and will have a "K" in the 5th place of the VIN. Of course if you plan on building your own motor this may not matter to you. All "K" engine Nova's also came standard with front disc brakes, which of course is nice. Nova's with other engines had discs as an option, so some have 4 wheel drums.

To see everyones "perfect Nova" see the ultimate Nova thread above.
