cannot get in 97 yukon with key it doesn't do anything! please help!

the battery in the remote is dead and i've been getting in using the key but the door doesn't unlock with the key now should i get a battery for the remote and reprogram it or might this be a bigger problem perhaps electrical or battery in truck

You might as well try the battery in the remote but I would suspect something more mechanical in the door lock if the key no longer works.

Perhaps something broke in the lock cylinder (that would be my guess) or some piece of the linkage to the lock switch disconnected. Pull off the door panel and see if anything has come apart.

Do the power door locks still lock/unlock that door? I assume you can still manually lock/unlock the door?
