WIP Benetton B192
Hi Everyone
I am new to this forum well I decided to get back into modeling it's been a very long time since I built a model. I picked up a Tamiya Benetton B192 this will be mostly an out of box build I might try some CF in spots. Here are a few pics of the engine. Enjoy Dave ![]() ![]()

Re: WIP Benetton B192
Dave, welcome to AF. It's always good to see F1 models. The build looks very clean so far. Good luck with the CF decals.
If you need any help with the decals check out the FAQ's in the first Car Modeling forum?

Re: WIP Benetton B192
Hi Dave.
Welcome to the forum... it's always nice to have another F1 modeller in here. Nice start on the engine on the B192. You have some really clean lines there, especially on the trumpets at the top. I picked this kit up recently, so I will be watching this build with interest. I hadn't noticed just how similar the engine is to the Ford in the Jordan 191 that I am building at the moment. I suppose it makes sense though, being as there is only a year between the cars. Are you planning on modelling Martin's or Michael's ride? All the very best, BillyPee |

Re: WIP Benetton B192
Hi Dave,
Any updates on this model Dave? I got the Formula Perfect Manual for this model recently, so the B192 is definitely a contender for my next model. I notice that your yellow rear cowling parts are green on the reference pictures. Are you planning to green decal over them? Any lessons you learn with fitment of pieces, order of attaching, etc, etc, would be most welcome. BillyPee |

Re: WIP Benetton B192
Hay Billy
I know progress seems slow I have been working on the monocoque trying to get the paint scheme right. I had some bleed of the green through the tape on to the yellow lots of sanding and repainting going on. Since this is my first model in a long time it's been a little show. As for fitting pieces if I was to do it over I would have place the drivers head rest into the monocoque before primer was applied and filled the seems around that part. I also would have painted the inside of the monocoque black first. I am going to just brush paint that now because I don't want any black on to the yellow. I have been working on the under tray, front wing while paint dries on the monocoque I do have the cockpit finished it's been a great learning experience I can post some pic's later. As for the yellow on the rear cowling parts I didn't notice the decal number only the paint number I have since repainted the green Regards Dave

Re: WIP Benetton B192
Hi Dave,
You have a nice and smooth paint job on the monocoque. Bravo. Quote:
. Not wanting to repeat the problems I had with the 2 tones scheme on the Williams FW24 I made doubly sure the tape was tight and I applied a coat of clear over the first colour so that if the 2nd colour did bleed, it would be easier to remove the bleed without damaging the first. Quote:

I'd be interested to find out what paints you are using for the yellow and green colour scheme. From your recent posting of the monocoque, the yellow looks very yellowey (like the yellow on the top half of a late 80's/early 90's Williams (TS-16)). Are you using TS-47 Chrome yellow, and if so does it look more 'orangey' in real life? The green looks like a superb match. All the very best and keep up the good work and the posts. Kind regards, BillyPee |

Re: WIP Benetton B192
Thanks to everyone for the nice comments.
Billy The yellow paint is TS-47 Chrome yellow and TS-35 Park Green I was going to try C/F decals on the side and back of the monocoque I pick up a sheet of Detail Masters C/F I applied it to one of the radiator ducks for a test to see if I could do it well it didn't turn out to bad. My problem was that the decals would just peel off the sheet as I was cutting it out they say put clear coat over the decals before using them well I tried that it made it easy to use but I didn't like the way they looked. Maybe if I had sprayed a flat clear instead of the Tamiya clear it might have turn out better. Regards, Dave

Re: WIP Benetton B192
Dave,
definately agree with BillyPee, use SMS C/F decals or Studio 27. They are all I use and have never had a problem with them, you certainly dont need to coat them in anything before cutting then out. As for Microsol/Microset - a modelers essential piece of kit, it works a treat and I wouldnt do without it! Just a quick tip, dont get so close to your model when you are taking pics and if possible take a picture outside in natural light or under a white light, they will come out much better, although your last pic is really good. Keep up the great work Sean _______________________________ http://www.scalereproductions.co.uk _______________________________ |
