country music awards

So who does everyone think will win the main awards? I'm hoping for a big night for Keith Urban.

here's the nominee list

Re: country music awards

Just recently getting back into listening to country, I'd make some guesses. Entertainer of the year will probably go to Brooks and Dunn again, but watch out for Keith Urban, and Rascall Flatts, they are really up and coming. If not this year, then definitely in the near future. Female entertainer will probably be Faith Hill, but I wouldn't be surprised if the nod went to Gretchen Wilson. Male entertainer probably will be Keith Urban, Kenny Chesney might be a close second. If I'm correct in remembering the Horizon award is for new artists, then my guess would be Sugarland as they seem to have been around a little longer.Josh Turner, though has been making some big inroads lately , so it might be a battle. Vocal group of the year will probably be Rascall Flatts, their star has really taken off in the past couple of years. My wife saw them open for Brooks and Dunn 2 or 3 years ago at our state fair. They were back this year as headliners.Plus they have that song , a remake of "Life is a Highway" that was quite popular. ( On a side note, this is funny at least to me. My 8 year old daughter saw the video of Rascall Flatts singing that song and said to me,"Boy daddy, that Keith Urban sure has put on a lot of weight recently!" ) Vocal Duo will probably be Brooks and Dunn, although I'd like to see Big&Rich get it as I like them. B&D get more airplay and have been around longer.I think The Wreckers are a little too new, maybe in a couple of years. Single of the year is hard, but I'll venture a guess at Brooks and Dunn again.Carrie Underwood, and Kenny Chesney are a real close second, they both received a lot of airplay this past year. Song of the year will probably be "Believe." For Musical evnt of the year, I'd have to say the duo of Bon jovi and Jennifer Nettles' "Who Says You Cant Go Home" will get the nod. Music Video of the year is a toosup between 8Th of November, and "Believe", both great songs that stir the emotions, although Big & Rich's stirs mine everytime I see it. And finally Album of the year is a tight contest between Kenny Chesney and Brooks and Dunn, with Rascall Flatts and Alan jackson a respectable second.

Re: country music awards

wow, pretty good analysis. I really don't see Brooks and Dunn winning again. I do think Urban, Chesney, and Flatts will have a big presence.

I think Carrie Underwood is interesting to follow in the awards just because voters might have issue with her "Idol" fame. I guess we'll find out on November 6th.

Re: country music awards

I see what you're saying about Brooks & Dunn and I have to agree. Although they may still pull off a win or two, their "light" has somewhat dimmed in the past year or two. I don't see as much of them in the media as the others,(Rascall Flats, Urban, Chesney,) and it may be time to "crown some new kings of country. Just as Alabama was in the '80s, Garth Brooks in the early to mid '90s, and Brooks & Dunn followed suit. We'll just have to see who will fill their shoes after the awards are presented. I see Toby Keith got snubbed again. One of my favorite country artists cd's I've been having in the player recently has been Trace Adkins' new one. I think his latest album came out too late for much consideration, and may not have enough "staying power" to make it to be considered for 2007 nominations. We'll see though as there are other country awards shows spread throughout the year.

Re: country music awards

those picks seem pretty reasonable and realistic to me. Why did i think Alison Krauss wasn't nominated?

Re: country music awards

Looks like Keith Urban won't be there at the show this year due to him going into to rehab . Our local country station again is a finalist for "Radio Station Of The Year" in a medium market, an award they won last year. They started broadcasting from the place where the awards are going to be held today, and into next week leading up to the show. They plan to interview some of the artists on the air.

Re: country music awards

that's pretty cool that your station gets that much credit. Are you in Nashville? Seems like a big honor, especially since they won last year.

i'm excited to finally watch the awards on Monday!

Re: country music awards

Actually I'm in Syracuse, NY. Our radio station will actually start broadcasting from there this weekend and not last weekend as I mentioned in my previous post. I guess they were so excited, they ran the promos for the broadcast a week early, oops LOL. Here is a link to the station's website if you are interested in checking them out. http://b1047.net/main.html You can even click on a link on that page and be able to listen to them on the air, online.

Re: country music awards

what, no Dixie Chicks? are rednecks still pissed at them, especially now that they publicly apologized for apologizing to the president for calling him a dumbass?
I think they should be up there for 2 reasons: 1) their music is great. I don't delve much into country, but the chicks are easy to listen to. and 2) those chicks have a pair of killer balls.

At some point, I hope everyone makes up, but it won't detract from me watching the awards show tonight (at 8). I just found out Bon Jovi will be there, which I never looked at him as country, but I'm not going to complain either.

The same goes for Jimmy Buffet, who has a song "Bama Breeze" on the country charts. Also look at Tim McGraw who had the duet with Nelly a couple of years ago. The music scene is full of crossover artists now who are finding more fans outside of their usual genre. Kim Carnes, known for her '80s hits "It's a Heartache", and Bette Davis' Eyes" will be coming out with a country album. I heard an interview with her and the DJs from our local country station doing their remote at the awards show this morning.

Re: country music awards

Well three of my hopefuls won. I was very suprised and pleased that George Strait was FINALLY inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame. He's incredible.
