Question Help! 99 Grand Am Makes Pop Noise then gets hard to Steer, leaked Fluid too?

This morning when my husband was starting his Grand Am to go to work, it made a loud pop noise. When he pulled out of the driveway he obviously noticed that it was almost impossible to steer and there was fluid smeared on the driveway as well. He's hopes it's just the power steering hose popped off but not for sure. Can anyone give advice to what it could be if it's anything else or how to tell if the pump is gone completely?? Thank you for any help

Carrie

Welcome to AF !

Poping.... Was the pop when he started the car?
Or was it when he was backing up?

Havnt seen any power steering hoses pop off,
or burst ,
but it is posible if the line was pinched/colapsed or a bad clog.

Look around on the passenger side(the right) of the motor.
Thier are two lines coming from the powersteering pump.
Heres a pic of that area.
Powersteering/Alternator
