Rear wiper

I have searched about this issue and it seems like a common problem. I have a 98 Jeep GC that I just got a week ago. I used the rear wiper a couple of times and it worked fine with no sign of messing up. I went to use it this morning and it didn't work at all. I'm going to check the fuse and hope that is the culprit, because it would really suck to have to mess with the rear wiper motor after just buying the damn thing...

Re: Rear wiper

Well, it fixed itself for now. The fuse was fine so maybe it was just being stubborn. I read in an old post that it has to be used often to prevent from going to crap. The delay feature will be a plus. I like having a rear wiper on my vehicles...

Re: Rear wiper

My 95 has the same problem, only it doesnt work at all. If you ever find out why it doesnt work/if you can fix it, let me know. Cuz Im having the darndest time with this issue. Its honestly the only problem I have with the Jeep, which says alot about them.

Re: Rear wiper

I just pulled the #8? fuse and put it back (it was fine), then pulled on the wiper arm (which doesn't really budge)... then turned the car on and it worked fine. The Jeep sat for 3 months prior to my purchasing it. I did a search in this forum for "rear wiper" and apparently this is a common thing. Most people are saying to keep using it. Some have taken the motor apart and oiled the shaft and put them back together. Others have just replaced the whole motor.

I was just a little upset this morning because I haven't even made my first payment yet. Haha. But from what I hear, these Jeep G/Cs are built to last...

Re: Rear wiper

Well, my wiper was working fine again after the interior light got stuck on and I wacked it a few times. But now it stopped working again. I was having trouble getting the tailgate to stay up (cold and parked on slant) so I slammed the tailgate upward, broke the bottom part of the right side hatch strut. I was so mad that stupid me slammed the hatch shut. Now the wiper doesn't work anymore. I'm guessing there may be a loose wire or something. Anyway, are these hatch struts hard to replace? I guess I'll be messing with the wiper wiring too...

Re: Rear wiper

I had the same prob on my '95 Orvis. It would stroke once or not at all. I ended up squirting a bunch of WD into what looked to be the moving parts as a shot at trying to fix it, and it started working when I went to use it a couple weeks later.

Re: Rear wiper

I know this is an old thread but it is mine...

I just had my Jeep mechanic (family member) install another reman-ed wiper motor and it worked one time and stopped. We hooked up a test light to the circuit and it has juice. We hooked up the wiper motors to a 12 volt source and they light up the test light but do not work. I would just like to say that these remanufactured wiper motors from Mexico (hecho in Mexico) suck hardcore. My wife's nephew is going to take it in today and see about some kind of service warranty satisfaction thing (basically get me a new part without paying the full price). /dissatisfied with product statement...

Thumbs up Re: Rear wiper

I know this is an old thread but I had the same problem. Wiper wouldn't work Took it out and it was rusted solid. I bought a new one and put it in and it worked once! I was pissed! Closed the hatch and it worked fine. It will only run if the hatch is closed. The one swipe it did with the hatch open after installation was to go back to the park position.
