Re: 77 vette

Hi Steermaster-
Your spindle is a light press fit in the bearings and rust has compounded the problem. I assume you have removed the halfshaft and the retaining nut and flange. You need to obtain from Ecklers ( no affiliation ), a "spindle knocker" their part number A2509 for $17.99. It screws onto the spindle thread and allows you to beat the spindle out without damage to the thread. Under no circumstances beat on the bare thread unless you want to buy a new spindle for big bucks. Also, you have to get under with as big a hammer as you have room to swing and pound squarely on the "knocker". Please make sure you have plenty of blocks or better yet heavy jack stands supporting the vehicle. It's not worth killing yourself for. I used the "knocker" on my 75 and it took 4 heavy blows with a 6 pound sledge to pop the spindle out. However, the body was off and I had plenty of room. You will be in a bit more of a bind but I expect it can be done.
Good Luck and remember, jackstands and heavy blocks.
