95 grand am coolant problem

I have a 95 grand am 3.1 v6 and a week ago i took a turn a little hard. when i got home i noticed all my coolant was leaking out so after it cooled down i took a look at the engine and noticed that the plug in the bottem of the overflow tank had fallen out so i put it back in and thought i was done. After another drive i noticed steam comming from the engine and a coolant smell. (i wish i knew what to call it but i dont-->) a round metal "object" driven by a belt on the left side of the engine lets steam out and leaks coolant, it seems loose. What can i do to fix it.
i really need help and im low on cash
benjamin

Welcome to AF !

Almost sounds like the water pump you are describing, but I'm not real sure either.

See whats what and let me know if you still r having trouble.
