1994 Cherokee Rough Acceleration

My jeep has a 4.0 engine with 184000 mile. It runs very rough upon stepping on the gas while in park. At idle it's not to bad but I do need to lightly hold my foot on the gas to keep it running or it will stall. If I put it in drive it will stall but if I kind of force it to go it will buck and go, but it bucks while your driving. The truck did overheat due to a bad cat. Recent parts just replaced with zero miles on them are: Waterpump;Thermostat;Fuel pump;Fuel Filter; Spark plugs; Cap; and Rotor. Your help in pin pointing the problem is appreciated.

Re: 1994 Cherokee Rough Acceleration

Well it seems like you have covered the basic possibilities. Now its time to dig alittle deeper. First, with that many miles I would look at the EGR ports and the EGR valve. YOu can check this by unplugging your vacuum line from the EGR valve and using a hand held vacuum pump put about 5" of pressure on it, if your idle doesn't change then your ports are clogged and maybe your EGR valve itself is stuck slightly open, giving you the ruff idle and such. Good luck.

Re: 1994 Cherokee Rough Acceleration

I had the same problem on my 93 JGC with 243,000 miles. I did everything imaginable to no avail. Then, I replaced the coil. Now she runs like a brand new Jeep. Replace the coil.
