Talking Wow, and all this time I thought C5's were fast...

First real race here in Phoenix....as it takes a pretty decent car to even make me think of going after it.

Went out for a cruise tonight about 11. Kinda lurking the freeways, mainly the Loop 101 that goes around the top half of the Phoenix area. Got around the Scottsdale area(money is no object) and saw a couple cars that I know not to mess with...Yellow Lamborghini Gallardo and maybe 10 minutes later an SRT-10. The car is quick, but 300 hp vs. 500 is no match....

Decide to stretch her legs out as the 101 was deserted towards the NE end. Got it to a gentle 110 or so before shutting down to 60 again. I see the all-too-familiar 4 oval tailight pattern...just couldn't make out if it was a C5 or C6 as I was still about a half mile or so back (man, that woulda been my ass if it had happend to be a Diablo or Esprit, lol) Closed the gap rather quickly, I'm thinking he slowed to see what was coming up behind him.

Get a great look at what it is. Black C5 Vette with windows tinted dark as the paint. Shiny tips on the exhaust, but looked pretty stock from first glance. I DID get a kick out of the license plate though...NDULGED. I keep it in 5th...at 60 that's about 2700 rpm for me....off boost just sitting, waiting.....still waiting. He doesn't go like I thought he would. So I take it up to 70....he stays with me.

Right now I'm concerned, b/c I don't know if he's packing some work under the hood, or he just wants me as a pacesetter. I decide to take it up to 80 and see if he follows suit, he did. So now I'm certain he wants to go....but just to make absolutely sure I drop to 65.

That pissed him off, he backed down as well...and gave me a couple barks of the LS1 soundtrack to let me know he's game.
We simultanously back down to 55, I set into 3rd...GOD I love the sound of 3300 and a turbo that's ready to spool at a tickle of the throttle. We sit there for about 4 secs or so before I hear ROAR. He goes.

After I gather myself and say "oh crap, my turn", He got no more than a car and a half lead and his pull is stopped....permanantly.

I wind 3rd out to somewhere north of 5300, held 16 lbs the whole range. That put my bumper at his rear fender. 4th gear and I'm already on boost, and by the time I'm halfway through my powerband we are both at 115 my rear fender is at his sideview mirror. I finished out 4th with about 15psi staying with me, and put a full 2 car lengths in between us. Shut down at 12X...wasn't trying to look for exact speed...and flick into 5th and back to 65.

He stays back and ends up staying to the far right falling back gradually before taking the Camelback Rd. exit, no doubt to cruise Olde Town Scottsdale.

Take a calm run back to the apt, congradulating the car the whole way,lol...

I had no idea it would be that easy. Just looking back and seeing how nasty it would have been had we taken off at the same time. I know he was still trying...because I could hear that engine(though barely, my interior cabin noise combined with open exhaust and dumped wg makes it pretty loud) I figured he would've given up after how quickly I stopped his initial pull, but it seems like he didn't as I heard at least 1 upshift from him.

All in all, I'm impressed by my 20 year old 4 banger front engine bastard of the Porsche famiy. I can't imagine what 470whp is going to feel like once I get the Vitesse Stg3 kit....all wrapped up in a sub 2600 lb package...

Re: Wow, and all this time I thought C5's were fast...

Thanks all for the kind words.

BLU CIVIC: Haha, yeah..I guess I'm like, 3-100 billion win-loss from all the hazards Ive had flashed at me after quote-unquote "races"

YoungVR4: I guess not, although I know not to mess with your kind. Nice car, man.

RacerD12: Nice to see another 951 here :-) Here are some pics from a while ago...yes, Ive gotten rid of the ribbed steering wheel cover, lol

Very nice... but why is your P-Car out in the snow lol j/k

You got a nice little list of mods there. Ever hit the dyno or track? Got to be in the solid mid to low 13s, not that 1/4mile really matters with these cars.

Nice car! Makes me miss my old 85.5 n/a 944. Seeing your car in snow reminds me of the 270* I did on a patch of black ice in the downward curve just up the street from my house... made my heart jump out of my throat. LOL

Wow...a noob who knows how to write. Don't think I've seen one of those since BurntRice (welcome to 2004 kids!).

But anyways, nice car, even better race. Get some vids from the track so we can see how fast it really is.
