Re: help with a 91 civic sedan lx
there's a JDM short shifter?
but anyways...yeah, relocating your battery is good...but i think any 88-91 short ram will fit...try and find a cai...it's a lot better

Re: help with a 91 civic sedan lx
you should be able to put in a short ram without movin your battery..ive got one on mine and its close to the battery but still fits. im still afraid to put a CAI on mine cuz im afraid of suckin water in and hydrolocking the motor.

Re: help with a 91 civic sedan lx
Any cheap short ram off ebay will work. You dont need to relocate your battery to install a short ram. If i were you and wanted to keep the battery up front, i would put a piece of fabric or rubber inbetween the short ram and the battery's positive terminal to keep from shorting out.

Re: help with a 91 civic sedan lx
I cannot believe you people...
First, yes a short ram (even 3" tubing) will fit and yes a piece of duct tape or cloth separating the metal intake tubing from the positive battery terminal does help from shorting out. Second, you will NOT hydrolock from installing a CAI and driving in rain or through puddles for that matter. I've had a CAI on my CRX for over 2 years now and have driven through really deep puddles and have driven behind trucks rooster tailing water directly onto my car and my bumper has a hole in it to suck air directly into the intake filter. Third, I had an AEM by-pass and it fell apart because it's just cheap plastic with some foam to allow some air into the intake when the filter on the end is totally submerged. Pretty much a waste of money. Now, unless you plan on driving through a river and completely submerging your filter - which you'd have to have your car in water as deep as the top part of your front tire - you will not have any trouble at all...

Re: help with a 91 civic sedan lx
If you wanna be real cheap, do what i did with my old std. Go to Home Depot and buy either 2.5 or 3 inch aluminum dryer tubing, the stuff that stretches like a slinky when you pull to make it longer, and hook one end to your TB and the other to a cone filter, route it behind your battery. I also used some extra tubing and put an inlet behind the grille, next to the radiator to recieve fresh, ambient air. I led this tube behind the battery, same place my cone filter was, so the filter could suck up this air from the front of the car. It was almost like having a short ram and cold air combo.

Re: help with a 91 civic sedan lx
Yeah, ive pretty much stopped worrying too damn much about sucking water up..Ive driven highway speeds in the worst rain I have ever driven or ridden in, and nothing..plowed through puddles about 3-4" deep, nothing.. maybe its my filter design, its an hks and very odd looking..lots of surface area to suck air from, only thing that could do it would be fully submerging it, in which case the water would be in my car. I have noticed the engine bog ever so slightly on a couple of occasions when I plow into a real deep puddle at about 5 mph, like pulling into traffic on corners, just let off the gas and it settles back down.

Re: help with a 91 civic sedan lx
2poor2tune, nice ride. I see you got the b16 in the 4door.
Oh yeah, no worries for hydrolocking for me anymore... I don't even have to jack up my ride to change the oil... LOL
