Protecting your car from the elements, whats better...

Winter is comming, and i am not able to put the camaro in the garage this time aorund, i am either getting a custom fit car cover (one of those heavy duty weather seal covers from carcoverworld.com OR one of those carport shed type things from dicks, both are about the same price, $100 more or so for the carport type deal but it isnt much more, whatever is better for the car it doesnt really matter.. I am just wondering, what exactly is better, if any.

i just left my car out side with a heavy duty car cover then a big tarp pulled over it and it was fine. when the snow melted it started right up and was fine. i don't know how harsh your winters are but in manitoba there nuts

They arnt to bad around here.. im just worried about rain / snow / whatever getting under the car mainly and causeing rust, since i just put over 2 grand into getting rid of the rust under there and various other spots and the job still isnt done, id really had to be back at step one after the winter

Well, just keep in mind, you can store a car in garage for 10 years brand new and will still rust as moisture in a vapor state is airborne, so if you have to leave it outside make sure it's on solid pavement and I'd personally put a tarp down underneath it aswell. Might seem ridiculous, but jsut a little piece of mind. You can't stop rust and especially on a car that's already had rust problems, like cancer, you rarely can get rid of it all.

Lifting moisture from soft ground will be a instant problem

I too, have to store my car outside all the time. So I bought a custom made car cover from www.carcoverworld.com to store it for most of the year. So far, it works good. Its just a bitch to wash.

Whats a bitch to wash, the cover or the car? Hopefully the car wouldnt need washed after being covered with the cover..
I am probably just going to get the heavy duty verson of the weather guard whatever whatever from carcoverworld and lay down some tarp and park the car on that and cover it up.
Right now i just have some tarp on it duct taped to the wheels.. it isnt working so great...

The cover is a bitch to wash. And yes, sometimes the car will look pretty dirty after taking the cover off. Especially if it rains or snows on it. After awhile, the dirt in the air will collect in the precipitation and collect on the cover. Then it will go through the cover and settle on the car. So you have smears of dirt on the car. But its better than no cover at all. And if you actually wash the cover, it won't happen, at least as bad. I've had the cover for 2 1/2 years and only washed it once. So that's my problem.

Rediculous!?!?! Not only is that a good idea for snow and rain, but if you have a flood putting a tarp under your car and tieing it over the top can save your car! Believe it or not as the water comes up so does the car! With a good quality tarp under ya the car will float! and you won't get any sort of flood damage.
