mysterious lights under shifter..

this might be a really stupid question, but that's why I'm asking. I have a 92 SI and under the plastic piece that the shift boot connects to, there are lights... now I always thought the ECU was under the passenger side floor board on the 4th gens.. any ideas as to what this could be? there are two LEDs that I can see, one is red, and the other green. I'm pretty sure they aren't christmas lights.... any help is appreciated.
