stock radio question

will the radio from my 98 cavy work in a 2000+ cavy? cuz my friend has a stock radio that does not have a cd player and i was going to install my old stock radio in her car, but i dont know if her wireing is the same as mine....i know that she will probly loose her door chimes and i dont think she will miss them and i dont think she has onstar so thats not a problem

will it work? the radio looks the same but the door chimes and onstar are wired in to the radio from 2000 and up so i wonder if the wires are different

I'm not sure either but I guess take them both out and see if it will fit.

Re: stock radio question

yeah.. that wont work. 2001 cavaliers have a newer plug on them that require a t-harness to put in an aftermarket whereas the earlier cavaliers have a standard gm plug

Re: stock radio question

okay new plan. Buy a Haynes manual for the both the cars, figure out the wiring and cut and splice the hell out of it..NO! bad idea, did that with my first car Dodge Spirit...let's just say I laid her to rest a long time ago, lol.

Re: stock radio question

well i was just thinking free was better than anything so i was going to put my old one in her car, but since you have to buy stuff to make it work ill just tell her she should buy a new deck cuz its not worth it just to put a stock radio in
