2002 Camry Door Lock

Hi Everybody

I post this question for my friend, he is annoyed by his door locks. In winter, he usually warm up his car and take a coffee before he goes to work but his Camry doen't allow to lock the car when engine is running, it doesn't matter he use remote or switch to lock the car, after he closed the door, it automatically UNLOCK, this is done on purpose by Toyota but he doesn't care, he has another spare key, anyone know any tips and tricks for this

Thanks

Re: 2002 Camry Door Lock

I think this feature is hard coded into the car's computer memory and cannot be reprogrammed. Does he have owner's manual? It could be mentioned right there.

Hello klieu,
has your friend tried to lock the doors of his camry from the outside using the key instead of his remote control. it might work this way even though the engine is running. it's worth a shot. good luck.

Re: 2002 Camry Door Lock

Did he ever ask the dealer? I would want the doors to lock while the car is running and in park, especially in a parking lot while waiting a couple of minutes for the windows to clear before driving off.

Re: 2002 Camry Door Lock

I have been told that there is no way to change that "feature".

However, he might try getting an aftermarket remote start installed.

Wink Re: 2002 Camry Door Lock

today I went out to my 1989 camry, started the car and was able to lock the door from outside with my spare key. it locked and stayed locked. why toyota changed this feature with the late model camrys is beyond me! shame on you toyota.

my dad has a 2003 camry and it has automatic locking doors once the the car reaches a certian speed. I imagine this was a good change. the doors lock even if you dont want them to lock. I imagine he can't lock his doors from the outside (when the engine is running) using a spare key or remote control. just a little info...

"why toyota changed this feature with the late model camrys is beyond me!"

I believe they changed this feature to prevent people from locking their keys in the car, especially with the engine running.

this is somewhat true. I can not lock my 1989 camry from the inside of the car (with the engine running) but I can from the outside using a spare key.

if the newer camrys would still allow you to lock the doors using the outside door locks (with the engine running) this would mean the person would have to have a spare key and/or a remote control on them therefore they would not lock themselves out of the car.

JOET/CAMRY

P.S. Mike, did you get your new 2007 Camry yet?

Re: 2002 Camry Door Lock

This feature is called "Lockout Protection" just in case you accidentally lock your car while engine is running, GM has this feature too BUT GM allows you to overdrive this feature if you want to lock on purpose

On weekend, my friend went to Toyota dealer for oil change and ask about this, the technician try to work around half an hour and no solution, he has no choice now and install remote starter with lock/unlock/trunk and put away his stock remotes

Thanks for asking. Yes. We got it a week ago Saturday. So far we are very happy with it. The only problem so far is that the dealer applied side molding was a bit loose at the back of both rear doors where there is a curvature. Dealer reordered them and already reapplied them.

"LOCKOUT PROTECTION"

this is a great feature that cars have to prevent someone from locking there keys in the car with the engine running...

only if the person uses the inside lock button located on the doors to lock the car.

however, Toyota should have allowed people to lock their car from outside the car with the engine running using a remote control or a spare key.

this would mean they wouldn't get locked out. they have a spare key and/or remote control to unlock the door.

JOET/CAMRY

yes, you are right BUT Toyota forget about this on 2002 Camry, the new generation 2007 Camry, maybe, it does, I don't know. However, my friend enjoy his new 2-way remote starter and solve the problem and a lot of nice features add on
