Unhappy Cleaned Trans mode/sensor now bent linkage?

2000 Isuzu Rodeo

I had the problem of selector in Drive but the indicator saying it was in Reverse. Decided to clean the sensor but with a twist. I removed the shift arm and then removed the 8 torx screws not having to remove the cover as it attached to the transmission. The good news is it is clean and the indicator is working properly at this time.

When I went to put the shift linkage back on the module I noticed it was almost impossible to put the gear selector in L, 2 or 3 positions. The problem was noticeable with the shift attached and not attached to the module/transmission. Either way it works fine in P, R, N and Drive. Did I bend the push rod somehow from the floor shift to the module/transmission? I can't say I used excessive force to remove the shifter link when removing it from the module/transmission but what happened?
