Unhappy Help! Lights come on when engine is off!

Can anyone help me please. We have just got hold of a Crown Victoria '96, and it's great, except yesterday when my daughter turned off the engine, the lights stayed on (running day lights?), and wouldn't go off until we removed the battery. Today it was running fine, stopped for a few hours today, went back to the car and the lights were still off. Then tonight, after being home for 4 hrs the lights suddenly come on at 10pm!! Any ideas please on why this might be?

Re: Help! Lights come on when engine is off!

Your day time running light module has failed. This is what you need to do. Open the hood and remove the plastic cover that is between the header panel and the radiator, you will notice that this cover has doors in it that pop out to replace head light bulbs. This is done by removing the 8 or so plastic round plugs that hold the cover in places. Now with the cover removed you will see the radiator support, mounted on the front of the radiator support is a small black box with cooling fins on it, it say made in the UK on it. It’s mounted by one bolt 8mm I think it is. Remove the unit off the radiator support and unplug the wiring harness from it. You can leave it unplugged and live without the day time running lights or replace the unit , I think that ford sells them for around $100-$125. The replacement push in tabs to reinstall the plastic cover cost about $5-$6 at Canadian tire, bring an old one with you to make sure that you buy the right size..
