Flasher

79 MGB turn signals, gas gauge and tach quit working. Turn signals have always been slow. I'll check the green wire connections, but where is the Lucas flasher located?

Re: Flasher

On the firewall behind the glovebox. If it's bad a generic one can used and is available at most autoparts stores for less than $10-.

Wiring diagrams are available at http://www.advanceautowire.com click on stock schematics.

Make yourself a couple of enlarged copies, one for reference, and one to make notes as you check the circuit.

Check to see what else is not working on the circuit, wipers, brake lights, reverse lights.

Most common problem with turn signals is the hazard switch. The contacts in the switch become corroded. Check the hazard switch for resistance. If the resistance is high, take apart the switch, clean the contacts and use dielectric grease on the contacts. If the resistance is high in the turn signal switch you will have to take it apart and clean the contacts and use dielectric grease to lube the switch and prevent future corrosion.

As you check connections, clean them, and use dielectric grease to prevent future corrosion. britishwiring.com sells connectors at a reasonable price. You may wish to consider ordering an assortment so you will have spares in your tool box. http://www.britishwiring.com/CAT14_15.PDF

http://www.advanceautowire.com/headlight.pdf is a link showing how to replace connectors.

Re: Flasher

Thanks for the info. I managed to get all dash gauges working and the $8 generic turn signal flasher sure beats Lucas. Now if I can figure out why the horn won't work. I took one unit out and it works fine on 12 volts. I cleaned all the connectors and under dash wire blocks look very good. I tried to test the horn button by jumping between the purple and purple/black wires, but no success.
