Newbie with factory fog light question
Nice forum you all have here - I hope I can get some advice for my brother-in-law, who is a bit too lazy to actually get on the computer and find info himself....
![]() I did a search and was unable to find the info I'm looking for. Anyway - he's got a 2000 Accord V6 coupe. A few months back, he installed the factory fog light kit. Nice little upgrade for an otherwise bone-stock car. He would like to re-wire them to work INDEPENDENT of the headlights. I KNOW this can be done - I did the same mod on my Mazda with factory fogs. When wired according to factory specs (which he did when installing them), the fogs can only be switched on when the headlights are in use. On my Mazda, I was able - with a very simple jumper wire - to re-wire the fog lights to operate with only the parking lights on, but they also work normally. In addition, they shut off when using the brights, which keeps the car legal (this is the law in the US). I gotta believe at least ONE of you guys have done this to the factory driving lights. Care to share the details? Pics of the spliced/tapped wiring would really help - I know I'd have been lost re-wiring my Mazda without the pictures I was able to see of the wiring mod, even though it was so simple. The pics helped to show exactly where to tap the wires and which ones. Anyone who's got the knowledge, PLEASE reply! I'd love to hook him up with this info. why not just redo the wiring so that it gets power straight from the battery or ignition switched source.

I know what you are saying, but he'd prefer to keep the car as "legal" as possible - as in, the fogs shut down when the brights are used.
Rewiring it like I said also prevents someone from accidentally leaving the fogs on by themselves when leaving the car - since they will only work when the parking and/or headlights are used - when the car beeps becuase the lights are still on upon shut-down, simply shutting the parking/head lights off will also shut down the fogs. I even suggested your idea to him - but he won't do it like that, and I don't really blame him. His car is bone-stock - he won't even screw with an aftermarket stereo in the damn thing - he'd hate to have new battery terminals, non-stock wiring under the hood, etc. Crazy, I know, but I can see his point. All this really requires is that the fog relay gets power from the parking light circuit rather than the headlight circuit. I'm sure I could figure it out, but if someone has already done it, some directions/pics would make the job MUCH easier. Thanks for the reply - keep 'em coming, please! ~HH |

My dad is a moron then, he wired my moms piaa's to come ON when the high beams come on. Mine are at an independent switch, I can put em on whenever.

On the related topic, I'm getting my Gen 2 projectors any day now with the built in driving lights. Someone tell me how to wire those driving lights to work with my turning indicators.
