Loud air sound
Whenever I'm really getting on it, and i hit the full boost that I set(16psi) the car makes a very loud air whooshing noise. I noticed that the noise didnt happen when the wastegate hose fell off once, and it just boosted infinitely. Is that loud air whoosh the sound of the wastegate opening and releasing air? or is it the bov? I'll be at WOT, and it makes that noise.

Re: Loud air sound
cool. are you asking a question? or just telling us you dont like the sound... Its the sound coming from the Wastegate BTW... but without the hose, the wastegate wont open @ 16psi IIFC (correct me if i'm wrong) so thats why you dont here it... its the sound of true power IMO

Re: Loud air sound
i would keep the lvac lines on... its designed to work that way, i dont know all the details, but in order to control boost levels, you need it connected to the vac line.

Re: Loud air sound
QUESTION:: Is it bad to run our cars without the wastegate hose hooked up? I get the same whooooshing sound...but I dont get ANY power out of the car, and I have the wastegate hose hooked up directly to the j-pipe...is this the right way/path to hook the wastegate up?
THANKS

Re: Loud air sound
If Your Factory Boost Is Set At Below 16psi Than The Wastgate Will Open At Factory Spec And The Engine Will Never Reach 16 If The Wategate Is Controled Electronicly The You Have To Reprogram The Pcm If Mechanicly Controled Than You Have To Change The Wastegate It Self

Re: Loud air sound
I know it is not stuck open but when I turn on the car and apply full throttle while I am under the hood, the wastegate seems to open up and let all the exhaust air out so in turn it does not spool the turbo (even though I still read 9-10 psi of boost)...Like I said I feel that this is my problem because I hear a VERY LOUD whooooshing sound.
Also the arm on the flapper (the one that the wastegate hold on too) is VERY LOOSE. I think I remember reading that the flapper has to be failry hard to move...right?

Re: Loud air sound
3am, if you still have an internal wastegate, you shouldn't be able to hear it open. You likely have a boost leak that only shows itself when it sees enough boost.
Boost leak test

Re: Loud air sound
The Arm On The Wastgate In Connected To A Vaccum Controled Acuator If It Moves Very Freely Then The Diaphram May Be Ruptured And The Boost From The Turbo May Be Pushing It Open Prematurly.the Woosh Your Hearing Is The Boost The Torbo Is Applying To The Manifold.
