transmission swap

i have a 1993 ford tempo, 1.9L automatic. it needs a new transmission. what would be the best way to change it? pulling the engine and tranny out through the hood or dropping the sub frame out through the bottom? any info would be very helpful. also any thing that i should know about would help. i never did a tranny in a tempo before. thx in advance for any replies. frank

1.9L in a 1993 ford tempo? Why does it have a escort engine?

Re: transmission swap

The reason that I asked is that in 93 that car is listed as 2.3L or 3.0L V6. I can't find anything in my ford manuals that points to a 1.9L. The only thing listed with a 1.9L in 93 is the Escort and Tracer.

Re: transmission swap

thats weird. i have 2 of them. taking tranny out of one and putting it in the other one. both say 1993, one says 1.9L very strange. and they are both tempos. maybe cause its a LX model? i dont know.

Re: transmission swap

ok, i have found the problem. it is marked wrong. under the hood it says 1.9L, but i put a snap-on scanner and the vin comes back to a 2.3L. sorry for the mixup. you were right, reekor. i was going by the data plate. anyway, i bought a book on it and found out how to do it. thx for the posts.

Re: transmission swap

i got the chiltons book, it was very helpful. the biggest problem i had, was it had to come out through the bottom of the car. wasnt a bad job, just get the top end stuff done first , like the book says, then get the car high enough, then do the underneath stuff. i didnt have a lift to use and still got the job done. although a lift would have been much easier.
