back lights don't work.....

hello everyone, i bought this 99 cougar couple of month ago, the back lights didn't work, found out after i got pulled over :o)). Had it rewired, and it worked for a week, and now back to the same thing. Funny thing is headlights, blinkers, backup lights, breaklights , flashers all work. Anybody has an suggestion??? I would appreciate it , thank you in advance.......

Re: back lights don't work.....

If you had a shop do the wiring, I would take it back. You will need a wiring diagram, test light and a meter. Test the sockets for power. If you have no power going to the sockets you are going to have to check the wiring from the sockets to the switch.

Do the dashlights work?

Re: back lights don't work.....

It is not hard to do the testing yourself, you just have to be methodical.
Make an enlarged copy of the wiring diagram. Highlight the circuit between the tail lights and the switch. Using a test light, start at the sockets and work your way towards the switch. Checking off areas you have tested on the diagram.
