Complete waste or Purley Genious

Okay, I have the spyder convertible model

I was thinking of fabricating or purchasing a shift knob with a hidden button, this button would roll all of the windows down as well as the top.

Pointless or Genious?

I think its pointless but I like my interior to be very unique!

anyone know the wiring codes for the spyder, like the batter color wire, and res t of them on the convertible top button?

Re: Complete waste or Purley Genious

your top button should roll down your windows also. If not it's broken. On the GS and GST the top button definately rolls down windows also. Get it fixed then if you want that button t the wires off that...

I think he's saying that the normal switch works just fine but he's thinking of relocating it to the shift knob to be different

Tell me exactly which wiring schematics that you need and I'll try find them for you. I have Mitchell on my computer so I have very easy access to them.

Re: Complete waste or Purley Genious

I would think all you need to do is pop off the console area around the vents where the top open/close switch is, and just take a peak at the wires since you're going to be going to them anyways.

As for battery, you could just run some wire over to the fuse box and ground to chassis under the center console, for example. Just make sure you fuse the +12v line. Not sure what the exact rating for the fuse is, but it would be the same as the one that goes to the convertible top switch (probably pretty big, like 20-30 amps, since it drives a motor).

As another suggestion, not sure if this is what you intended, but if you're any good with electronics, you could put a simple timer circuit together that would activate a relay (for the amount of time it takes the top to open/close) going to the top open/close switch, just like the auto window down switch on the driver's side door. So with a simple press of a button, everything would open automatically (with the exception of the latches) and close with another press. This is what us lazy electrical engineers do with our spare time.
