W.I.P. Norton Manx 500cc #20 ''Piet Bakker''

Hey guys,

for a Dutch Contest I will make the Norton Manx 500cc from the Dutch racer 'Piet Bakker'.

The tittle of this contest is: 'If it is just Dutch or Belgian.

Here's Piet Bakker in action on his Manx.

and here on a other bike with number #33

For this model I use the kit from Revell. It's scale 1:9.

I painted the wheels a couple of weeks ago.... so they are really dry.

I try to make a lot of details. I bought some screws and bolts etc. for the engine but I try to search more because they're very expensive.

Hope you like this and comments are welcome!

Kris.

Re: W.I.P. Norton Manx 500cc #20 ''Piet Bakker''

Finally I started to this kit.

First I wanted to add some details to the engine. So I searched for some screws and bolts etc. I found a lot of them at an sunglasses shop. I got them all for free and if I wanted more I only have to ask more

But before I started on the engine I completed the wheels:

I really like these tyres. They looks very nice and it's real soft rubber.

More to come soon!

Kris.

Re: W.I.P. Norton Manx 500cc #20 ''Piet Bakker''

He,

today I did a lot of work on the engine.

First I scratchbuild the tumbles with real bolts and screws

Than I filled some gaps in the engine with some putty. After that I painted in Light gun metall.

I also addes some screws on the engine.

Than it was time for the cilinderhead. First I painted it black and than the outside in matt aluminium.

The valvecap was painted in flat black. I added the tumbles and the valvesprings. I also added some screws on it.

Hope you like it.

Kris.

Today I painted the frame in Gloss Black.

I also made the carburator. I really like the clear petrol hose.

Re: W.I.P. Norton Manx 500cc #20 ''Piet Bakker''

After a long time I picked up the Norton again.

I looked at the instructions and saw I had to wire the engine. But before I did that, I picked up the fuel tank.

The racingbikes in the 50's sometime had a aluminium strip with holes in the lenght of the tank. Like this:

On this fuel tank there was also a strip molded on but this one had not those holes. So I removed the molded strip:

Before:

After:

With a piece of masking tape I looked how big the new strip must be:

Cutted it out of a sheet styrene:

marked where the holes must be drilled:

and drilled them out:

and glued it on the tank:

When the tank is painted I'll add some BMF on the strip.

After this I wired the engine:

After this I made the cap (don't know how it's called in english) with the Norton badge on it.

First I removed the molded screws and added some bmf on the norton logo.
Than I primed it and removed the primer from the logo, so it was chrome again. Than I sprayed it black and did the same handling as before with the logo. The pics are taken with max. zoom so this logo looks a bit crappy but when you see it in real it looks 10 times better

When the paint was dry, I drilled some 1mm holes in it for the real screws.
And than I added the screws. I think it looks really great

And placed it on the engine

Now I think I'll make some parts like the tank and mudguards ready to paint.
I also will try to make the #20 decals for the numbersheelds.

A little feedback is welcome!

Kris.

Re: W.I.P. Norton Manx 500cc #20 ''Piet Bakker''

I changed the plans. I have not enough time to finish it before march, so I'll make this one stock. I decided to stop with the dutch contest.

I don't wanna screw this one so it's better to stop the contest and make it slowly further.
