Upgrades in future?

I think I asked this before but I can't remember... is it possible to just drop a grand am GT tranny in to a grand am SE? Or is it possible to drop a larger engine in?

Re: Upgrades in future?

both transmisions are the same connetions and size.

Their just geard a little different.
The SE usually has the 4t40e and the Gt has 4t45e.

When I bought my se, it had a replacment trany from the dealer(after 20k? miiles ) in Arizona.
The people that owned it lived in OHIO and was on vacation, that would suck

Re: Upgrades in future?

heres a question. I have a 5 spd and have been curious about finding some better gear ratios because i HATE how low 3rd gear is until about 45mph and 4th might as well be non existent. Would the GT tranny improve in those areas or would that not even be worth the hassle????

That's what im wondering Then it would make the PCM be even more worth getting It would be cool to have a custom built engine or drop a 3600 or 3800 in there as well though and get like a grand prix gt tranny... but for that price you almost might as well buy a used GTP lol.

Your engine is a 2.3L ? SOH or DOH ?
The newr one might fit I havnt really looked to see if they'd be swapable.
I guess on the 3rd gear, just dont shift outa 2nd till you get 45

You dont want to know
I dont even really know what a New one would cost, Gm parts direct doesnt even list the price.

A used one would be cheaper and should get a good price on your trade-in trans.

ITs not even worth droping in a 3.8L you would be better off just buying a GP or GTP
You are taking Mega $$$ and time getting it to work, tho it has beeen done. Do a search on Google and thiers quiet a few people who hav swapped in a 3.8 and the 4T65 trans.
