Tires for 2000 Isuzu Trooper 4WD

Well after about 85,000 miles, I need to replace the Michelins I bought from Sam's Club. I'm inclined to go back with Michelins, but Consumer Reports rates them pretty low compared to others such as Dayton, Kelly, and even Goodyear. We often take it up in the mountains in winter so snow traction is a factor; we put about 20,000 miles on it each year, so comfort (noise), roll-resistance, and wear rating are important as well. So, what have you found to work well on this vehicle? What tire would you recommend?

I would recommend the Michelin LTX, but for its low Consumer Reports rating.

Thanks!

Re: Tires for 2000 Isuzu Trooper 4WD

Actually, per my calculations, you're only averaging 14,166 miles per year on your trooper - hehehe, couldn't resist.

I have 162k on my '97 Rodeo, averaging 17k per year - I've always thought I put a lot of miles on every year.

On to the tires, I currently have the Yokohama Geolander AT's on 3 different trucks, the Rodeo, toy p/up, dodge diesel. I HIGHLY recommend them in all terrain - we live in the Rocky Mountain region and these tires/trucks see a lot of snow, mud, ice, etc. I have about 50k miles on the combination of these tires, and they're great on all 3 trucks.

My last set on the Rodeo was the Bridgestone Dueler AT Revo's - I highly recommend them as well, I just couldn't afford a 2nd set after they hiked the price on them.

Re: Tires for 2000 Isuzu Trooper 4WD

I have about 85,000 on the current set of tires, there are 140,000 miles on the vehicle. We bought it in 2001; it had 25,000 on it at the time of purchase; we've put on just over 115,000 in about 5.25 years which averages out to about 21,000 per year.

Anyway, a local tire shop is having a big sale on Michelins; I can get a set of the LTX/MX P245/70R16 for $590, mounted, balanced, and installed. I don't think I can pass that up given the performance I had out of my current set of Sam's Club Michelins.

Thanks.

Re: Tires for 2000 Isuzu Trooper 4WD

I echo the sentiments on the Yoko's. I had them on both my Rodeo and my Trooper and was pleased. The only issue (if I had to come up with one) would be that they didn't last too long for me. I got about 30K on each set before the tires had noticeable performance declines. However, for the price they are well worth it. I now have a set of the Revo's so time will tell how they perform but so far I am very impressed.
