Exclamation 94 buick roadmaster

we hope someone can help us with this we have a 94 buick roadmaster and we want to know why does the transmission not shift into 1st gear on its own you have to do it manualy any and al help is greatly appreciated thanks

Welcome to the forums, roadmaster.
How's the fluid level look? Are you seeing an engine light come up? Have the ECM scanned for trouble codes, the transmission is electronically controlled, and you might find the fault that way.
