96 Grand Am trans problems....Help
I just bought this car, and it had a check engine light. I scanned it and I'm getting an 0753 shift solenoid problem. I have checked the fuse as well as checked the 7 pin connecter for 12v on the E pin, I also used a test light to jump the the E pin with the A pin and it lit up. So is it safe to say that the wiring to the solenoid is correct? This tranny seems to shift ok except it will not downshift. Is it tha actual 1-2 solenoid?? Where can I get info about how to change it? Lastly I cleared the code, then I started it back up, without doing anything but let it idle for 10 seconds the check engine was back on. I would have thought that it would have at least required me to put it in gear and or drive the car for it to throw that code again??
Any help would be appreciated. THANKS |

Re: 96 Grand Am trans problems....Help
Welcome to AF.
It sounds like electrically the proper voltages are getting to connector but the 1-2 shift solenoid has a problem. The DTC will disable shift adapts, cause maximum line pressure and inhibit downshifts. All shift solenoids work toegether in the form of a matrix. To replace the solenoid DIY is difficult. It is located under the side cover with the valve body. Meaning the engine and tranny will need to be dropped down intact on the subframe cradle.
