99 dakota cv axel replacement

Hi everyone,
I need to replace the driver's side cv axel assembly next weekend. Has anyone had to do this yet? I am hoping I don't have to drop the ball joints. Can anyone way in on what I can expect when I tear into this..
All help appreciated
