Exclamation 1994 Gmc Sierra 5.7L Header Question

I want to buy some header, and i was told that ceramic is better, but as i have found out they are also most expensive and really i dont know if i want to spend that much on sum headers. I would like to know what is the difference and if the reg hearders will do just fine?

Please help me out i have a few weeks untill i have to buy them so i figured id look around asap.

Thanks

Ceramic run cooler and flow better and last longer, your choice.

Re: 1994 Gmc Sierra 5.7L Header Question

So.... Pretty much im better off spending the extra $ now and going with a nice Ceramic set rather then just getting the reg steal ones and spending around $100 or so?

We'll pretty much im sold on going with ceramic because in the long run i know it will save me money, but from what u may know what would be the best set of headers that i could get for my truck but without spending hundreds on them?

Im looking for a nice price around $150-250 range i dunno if that will help...

Also what are the type of gains could i see with them on my truck ..

I.E- I have a cold air intake, tbi spacer, and tru dual exhaust .... Dont know if that will help you with any type of answer to any of my questions either..

Thanks though man appriciate the help..

Re: 1994 Gmc Sierra 5.7L Header Question

I had a 5.7 with K&N intake, ceramic headers, performance chip, and 3" exhaust with no muffler. I put the K&N on first and it made a big difference, then came the chip and it made a huge difference. Then the headers and exhaust made some difference but if I had it to do over I would have forgot about the headers and just replaced the stock muffler with a Borla turbo muffler.
When I sat in the truck at idle it sounded like a German U-boat coming into port.
I now have a 5.3 with a K&N, Superchip programmer, Borla turbo muffler and it gets better gas milage and runs very, very strong.

Re: 1994 Gmc Sierra 5.7L Header Question

2000
I think it was a JET controller on the 5.7. This looks interesting but I had the fixed one... http://www.jetchip.com/products.asp?...&model=454#454

This is the one I had... http://www.jetchip.com/products.asp?...&model=454#454 And it was weird because you had to take the glove box door off...reach in and undo the bolts holding in the controller...open it up and install the new chip...and when I tried to start the truck nothin happened...you have to put the old chip unto the new one or it won't work. The directions that came with it sucked. But...I could feel a difference with the new chip properly installed.
I had both Stage 1 and Stage 2 but the Stage 1 worked best. I bought the Stage 1 from Jegs.

Re: 1994 Gmc Sierra 5.7L Header Question

I just went with the regular Flowtec shorties, they work just fine, though if you live where they salt the roads they wont last long, happily I do not.
Engine compartment temps can really be a problem in a camaro and the like but I have never really had a problem with this on my truck.
I'm chipped as well but I burn my own, equipment cost was about the same as a pre'burned chip but at a dime a chip I can custom burn a chip anytime.
I got all the info on it through the thirdgen website and just applied it to my truck instead of a camaro vett or bird.
I have alot of mod's to my 91 that have made quite the difference but alone each modification brought only a slight gain in performance and mpg.
I My last modifications: tbi and chip seemed to bring the most gains but without the cam, heads, etc, I don't think they would have made as big a difference.
And though I bought the cheaper headers I have to agree with the other posters in that you get what you pay for, I just couldn't afford the more expensive headers at the time and had a cracked manifold, the only reason I still run them after 3 years is they haven't broke yet.
