No memory wire for cd player

I have a 1983 LTD Crown Victoria, every time I turn my car off the cd player resets, and there is no memory wire coming from the fuse box. Is it a way I can Install one.

Re: No memory wire for cd player

There should be a red and a yellow power wire. The yellow one needs to go to a constant 12v, the red goes to a switched 12v. It sounds to me like you have them reversed or both tied to the switched 12v. If you don't have one in the dash, you can pull a constant 12v off of wherever you want, there will be one somewhere in the dash. You could also just run your own line back from the battery, just make sure to fuse it by the battery.

I want it hooked up threw the fuse box so that when the car is off and the cd player is on it doesnt kill the battery. My amp remote wire is going to a yellow wire along with a red and yellow wire from the wiring harness. When I turn the cd player on everything comes on.

I have an interor light that lights up the driver side floor going to the fuse box that I dont use, can I use that for a constant?

I'm not really sure what you mean on a few counts

1 - If you hook the cd player up to the wires in the dash it's already being run through the fuse box, every wire in your car is run through the fuse box (unless you wire your own straight to the battery, but as long as you fuse it yourself that's fine)
2 - If your car is off and the cd player is on it will always kill the battery regardless of where you're getting the power from if you leave it on too long
3 - I don't follow the red/yellow/remote wiring situation that you briefly described, could you go in more detail?

I didnt hook this up. There is a red and yellow wire coming from the cd players wiring harness. They are both connected to another yellow wire comeing from the car. There is no other red wire visible. This car is retarted.

Re: No memory wire for cd player

Sounds like on your car the yellow from the car is the switched 12v lead, and it's wired to both the solid and switched 12v wires on the headunit. You need to take the yellow wire coming from the headunit and wire it to a permanent 12v lead somewhere in the dash. If you can't find one behind the headunit (there should be one), there should definitely be one under the steering wheel or in the fuse box.

Its fixed, stations are set, and it plays where I left off. I disconnected the battery cables. I took the whole dash out to get to the fuse box. I hooked the yellow wire to the wire for the interior lights. Fuse didnt blow, it didnt reset. Works fine
