RX7 fires?

What's up with the RX7s and fires? I've seen RX7s for $10,000 - $13,000 and that's what I want to spend, but I've seen so many RX-7s on ebay that had engine fires. I heard they have problems with overheating. Some info on this?

now i don't know a ton about rx7 specs and the inner workings of the engine so please correct me anyone if i'm wrong. this is just what i know from people who supposedly know what they're talking about (friends and whatnot). the triple rotor engine or whatever it is wasn't very reliable and under hard driving it would only last for so long. the basic understanding is that if you race around in yur rx7 for a week you'll b spending the next week fixing it, and not just little inexpensive things either. its a big investment and takes a lot of maintenance and money to keep working. now like i said this isn't fact to my knowledge so if i'm wrong please correct me, i'm just giving my 2 cents. in my opinion i'd spend my money on something else. i am at school in PA but home is in MA and the winters in new england get pretty nasty which is the way i like it. i enjoy driving in nasty weather. i love rally and drifting so i'm working towards buying a subaru impreza 2.5 rs. i mean i've seen 2000 2.5's in your price range all the time and they are great cars. 165 horses 160 torque stock and all wheel drive. and then with an extra 4000 you can get a stage 3 cobb power package and blow by the 200 horse mark. i duno how winters are in NJ so maybe you want a rear wheel street monster. good luck finding the right car man!

HAHA! Thats the car I originally had in mind. I just saw this RX7, black, 60,000 miles, 93 for 10,000 so I thought I would look into it. There are a few nice RS's but for more money. I also looked into the infiniti G20 because it's the cheapest and I figure at 140 horsepower it's the same as the RS considering the power lost in AWD.

RX-7 fires are mainly caused by faulty pulsation dampers.

actually that 165 hp is to the wheels not in the engine so when you compare to the infiniti your comparing straight out 165 to 140.

First of all, the only engines in the RX7, the 12A and 13B are twin rotor engines, and the only triple rotor engine is the Cosmo motor.

Second of all, the 13B is reliable enough to be used at high rpms for many hours at a time in aircraft

The 20B is also referred to as a Cosmo which he stated. Also he said the only engine that the RX-7's CAME WITH are the 12A and 13B. He didnt say they were the only rotary engines.

So unless you know YOUR rotarys keep your mouth shut.

you should stick a pencil in your left eye for not having kept your mouth shut, and we (the AF comunity) should throw rocks at you for, at the same time, have told someone he should keep his mouth shut.

Re: RX7 fires?

BTW. rx7s arnt for dumb or lazy ppl loving to beat up their car. they are for rx7 enthousiastic, no one else.
buy a chevy van or a camaro.

rotary engines requiere more money and knowledge and work and maintance and money and time and knowledge and money.

and RRRRRRRRRRRRRRex7, i hate you,
try to bail out of a car on the highway or something
it would make this world a better place to live and to breath

Alright, your the one that started insulting people for no reason, if you cant take it then either think before posting and maybe do some research or just dont post at all.
By they way, this isnt a good way to introduce yourself to the AF Community.

well so i was a bit rude yes i know. But even so. the other dude could set some sort of example and not tell me to sell my my rx7 and hang myself? he acts 16 hope he does not drive near me. and for the other comment about driving your rx 7 for two weeks and have to work on it for a week to keep it running. thats if you have a pos or lemon and dont take care of your car. I have an 88 gxl with 121k all freeway and was garaged all the time and hardly ever saw 6k rpm. i had it for a 6 months and its been a dream..
