About that race I posted...
...between the 89'-91' Civic Hatchback and the WS-6, where I saw the Civic walk away from the WS-6. Everybody kept talking about how the Civic must have been fully tuned with a turbo on a lot of boost. Well, my friend, who owns a new shop here in Arizona(PM me for info if you want...no free advertising here), finally got done with the hybrid swap into his 88' CR-X. He swapped a b20 block with a ported and polished b16 head and strengthened internals with high compression pistons. He ran the car all-motor...which is how he plans to keep the car...and ran a best of 13.2 with only two runs under the car's belt. He took it to Speedworld here in Arizona where they have "run what you brung" nights on Wednesdays, where you can run your car...as long as it passes safety...for about 15 bucks.
The above statements relate to my previous thread because I wanted to say in that previous post that I never heard a BOV on the Civic, even as it accelerated from the light...before the WS-6's rumble drowned out any other sound on the road that night. I didn't mention the BOV issue however, because NOBODY (especially the current crop of doubters we have here right now) would've believed that the Civic would've beat the almighty WS-6 all-motor. Everybody had an explanation about how it must've had a well-tuned turbo system. Well, my friend's CR-X was run on full interior and street-tires, and the car was driven to the track, not trailered in any way. I admit I don't see how his car can pass it's next emmissions test, but it's street-legal for now. The style Civic hatch I saw that night only weighed very slightly heavier than a CR-X, and although it's quite possible that it had turbo without a BOV, it was also quite possible that it was all-motor...although "naws" is always a possibility. Even BlkCamaroSS's own lightly-modified Camaro SS has "only" run a best of 13.5, which is around the stock times given for the WS-6's. It is quite possible for an all-motor, street-legal Honda to beat a factory V8 hot-rod like the WS-6. Oh, and my friend was spinning up to 3rd gear...he'll be even faster once he comes to grips(get it?) with his car. EDIT: Forgot to mention that he ran the car at around a-hundred degrees ambient temperature, which affects accceleration adversely.

i agree. there is a 89 std hatch like mine running around here with a B18C5 in it... the only thing that gives it away is the real type R seats he has.. I hear he is low 13/ high 12s. Dont doubt all motor hondas.

Agreed. Anything is possible people. F-bodies/other V8's are not infallible, truth hurts. Won't stop us from trying to beat everything on the road, but you gotta know when you're out-matched.
Carrrnuttt: I'm going to the track on the 20th though, so maybe I can bring that time down a little further though . For my own piece of mind, I want to make sure I can't do better before I start ordering more for the ole' SS.

Don't feel too bad Black SS. I live at 5800ft, and I've never seen a stock, or almost stock ls1 go lower than 14.0, someone claims a 13.9, but no one I know ever saw him run, and we all used to be at the track nearly every weekend.

Yup, practice makes perfect, and seeing as how I've only had one run, the one that's posted in my sig, I haven't had practice at all yet.

stock Ls1s have run 12s you refer to BlkCamaroSS's time as if thats all he could eke out of his mildy tuned motor. Keep in mind that was his only run, the first time ever at the track, which we all know is quite different from launching on the street.
Although, i have seen some Very fast all motor imports. One night at the streetraces this summer there was a guy with nothing more than a tuned prelude motor in his 95 hatch, and he kept up with an 11 sec. supra. Now before you flame the shit out of me, he was only like a carlength behind, because the supra missed a shift. the 2nd time they ran, the civic blew his clutch, but was still only about 4 or 5 cars behind. Afterwards everyone made the kid open up evry part of his car, looking for nitrous, but there was none. carrnut is right though. If you know how to build a motor, you dont need a turbo to fast |

Easy there Self. He was merely stating the fact that it has been done in the past. He said "stock Ls1s have run 12s" meaning that it is possible. He didn't say it like it was a normal occurence. Any knowledgeable person knows that the top times for any vehicle have been run by professionals during ideal conditions. That doesn't mean that we can't dream about achieving those goals as well. So what if I'm not a professional or the best damn driver in the world, that's not going to stop me from trying. The day that you stop trying to achieve your goals is the day you stop being a competitor.

granted 12s is a tall order. but the point im trying to make is there has to be some margin of error when it comes to his first run ever at a track. Give him a few more tries to get used to it, and his times should drop noticeably.

BlkCamaroSS: good luck on that run.
I just posted that because people seem to think that to run a honda against any V8, you would need to spend a butt-load of money on the engine and more on a turbo kit. My friend's CR-X cost him about $1,500, and the motor, since he did all the work himself, cost him about 3grand for everything, including the strengthened parts. So it cost him about $4,500 to have a 13second...possibly 12second machine. I understand as far as money-to-speed ratio, nothing can really top the old 5.0 LX 'Stangs...for less than 10large, you can run 11's all-motor, but then again, another 3grand on turbo kit should bring my friend's CR-X VERY close to 11's... I'm just saying...for all of you with aspirations of turning your Hondas into "sports cars"...there's ALWAYS hope. Just find the right tuner...and bring cash ...not that much in some cases...but cash helps...For all of you "wannabes" who like putting crap into your cars to make them LOOK fast but can't back it up...spend your money wisely...and if you're that dumb...maybe a big brake kit is the best 1st investment for you. Quit making the rest of us look bad.
