98 CR-V Rear grinding?

Went to buy a 98 CRV ex today. 154000 miles, one owner, all maintenance done, verified. When making a turn at slow speeds, such as a u-turn, or pulling out of a parking lot, wheel not locked, but close, I get a sound that appears to be originating from the rear tire area. It sounds like a metal to metal sound, but not a harsh grind. It also seems to have a tone, like a whir, also. I am aware of the rear diff issue, but it doesn't fit the symptoms that I have read. ANY IDEAS? Other than that, car seems sound. Still want to pursue.

That grinding while making sharp turns sounds like a differential problem.
