Ford mechanic with Chevy problem

OK guys! I have been pretty active in the Ford section offering support to Ford owners since I am a Ford tech. Well, I own only Chevrolets

Here is the problem that is confusing the hell out of me. I have a 1995 Chevy 1500 4X4 with the 5.0L engine. The starter has been making funny noises for about 2 weeks and finally, it would do nothing when turning the key

I got a reman starter and replaced the old one. As soon as I hooked up the battery, the engine started to crank with the keys still in my pocket

I removed the large connector and the signal wire and inspected for shorts and found nothing wrong with the wiring. I tried turning the key "ON" and the damn thing starts up as soon as the battery is connected with the starter running with the engine

There was nothing like this happening with the old starter. Is it possible the new starter is bad? It does not make sense though since the ignition controls the starter.

Any help from you chevy guys would be appreciated! I need to get to work on Monday with my trusty Chevy so I can fix Fords for people.

What did you expect as a Ford tech driving GM products? Seriously, check for 12v on the smaller purple wire, if none the solenoid is shorted, if 12v in the run position the ign. switch may be bad.

Unhook battery, then, unhook purple wire on starter, reconnect battery ,
it cranks, its a shorted solenoid, if it does not crank with the purple wire
disconnected either your purple wire is shorted to battery voltage or the
ignition switch is shorted.

Hmm that sounds familiar.
