What car do I have?

Hello there.

I'm all new to this forum, so I'm not quite sure how things work here, but I have a few questions.

I've just bought my selves an used old car. It's a BMW 3,0S 1977mod. I've been trying to find parts and info on this car, but what I know about the car is appearently not enough. Under wich group does this car fit? 3 series? 6series? M3? X3? Is the car better known under another name? 315? 318? 320?
What engine does this car have?
Are there some models I can switch parts with? I want to keep the car as original as possible, but we have a serious problem with salt on the roads here, so I have lots of corrosion.

As you all can see, I have absolutely no experience with BMW.

Is there a page where I can type in the frame nr. and get all factory info?

I'm gratefull for all help I can get.

Re: What car do I have?

It sounds like you have an e3 saloon which was just called a "3.0S". It was basically the first of the 7 series. 1977 was the last year of production, it began in 1968. If these pictures look like your car, then that's what you have. Try some internet searches for "BMW e9", "BMW 2500" (same car, smaller engine), or "BMW 3.0S". You will find some good info out there. Good luck!
