Re: clutch ?

You can disconnect or nullify the clutch saftey switch. This will let you start your car in nutral. Problem is, if your in gear it will still try to start and start moving forward. I know a kid who was crushed at a shop because the owner disconected the saftey switch. He was pissed, but he loved the Val her got from the hospital.

Re: clutch ?

there are two switches by the clutch. One is for the cruise control and the other is the safety switch. Disconnect one and try to start without it, see if you got the right one, if not, switch.

I did this when i first got the car because it was supposed to help keep away CW

Because when you push the clutch in when the car isnt running it puts pressure on the thrust bearing without any oil on it...which causes pre-mature thrust bearing failure...then crankwalk

Re: clutch ?

I was always wondering how to do that to my rs. When i got my gst, it was crazy because i could start it without the clutch and the owner was a 50 year old guy.

i know a 6bolt is the solution, but for those of us lacking a 6bolt and/or funds....

on an engine that isstill running good, i could have the thrust bearing replaced, or at least checked out, and prevent crankwalk?

i took that switch off for the remote start on my car, but i never really use it too much. i even still push the clutch in when i start the car, just out of habit. all day today though since i read up on this post, ive been using the remote start so i dont press the clutch lol

Re: clutch ?

I have been reading a lot about crankwalk lately...and it seems as if everyone has a differant theory on it...but the best write up on it that I found was this one.... http://www.magnusmotorsports.com/tech/crankwalk.htm

I would suggest anyone that is curious about it read it...its very interesting...

Re: clutch ?

thats a pretty good writeup. man this crankwalking stuff is making me nervous. i have 102k on mine, and im ultra-scared about it taking a massive dump.

what are some indicators or symptoms of an engine getting ready to walk?

When your odometer reads 105,961 miles...

...Oh wait, thats just my indicators. lol

The clutch will be funny when turning and it will run totally awesome without changing anything. Thats when the bearings are gone and it has no friction whatsoever on the crank... Until you slow down enough for everything to stop floating on oil. lol Then say, bye bye motor.
