a/c problem

i'm having problems with my a/c compressor the bearings gone in it and i don,t have the money to put another one in it.It,s a 1990 . iwas wondering does anyone think if i bought a smaller belt and bypassed the pulley on the compressor would this work.

I did this and it is working fine, anybody who needs to this and has a 90 ninety eight with a 3800 the belt size needed to do this is 72 inches
