Dumb electrical int. lights problem

Sooo, my 1.8 1g thinks a door is open, all the time. I tried opening and closing the doors, checking the switches, even taking a screwdriver and pushing in the latch to simulate the doors being closed. No luck.

The passenger side swith was stuck in though. being stuck in doesnt seem to be a problem, as this would simulate "door closed". I pushed the switch and pulled it but it was stuck...then It broke. I looked at the wires and assumed that when the door is closed, the switch makes a ground with its housing and the car knows "doors closed". I sanded and cleaned up the wire and a patch to ground it, and did so. No luck. Anyone else have this problem?

Im going to swing by a junkyard for the switch soon, just wonder if I can fix this sooner. I hate pulling the fuse, as my radio doesnt work.

Oh yeah, my car also has a computer from a 93 1.8, maybe thats different?

Re: Dumb electrical int. lights problem

maybe its your hood or trunk.

on my car, the light comes on if the hood or trunk(or "boot" if you prefer) is open. the latch for my trunk is kinda funky, so the whole hatch has a very slight up and down movement to it. if im bookin on the expressway somewhere, the light goes on and off, and i used to think it was the wind pulling up or down on the spoiler. but i notice if i hit a bump kinda hard even at slow speeds the light flickers on then off, that could possibly be my hood. check the switch for your hood and trunk.

also, i have an aftermarket alarm system. one night my car was possessed or something. i got out of the car, i didnt notice any door lights on, shut the door, hit the lock button on the keypad. i was walking into applebees and my alarm goes off. so i walk back, and i notice the light on the dash through the window saying a door is open. so i shut off the alarm, open the drivers side door, and then close it, and the light stays on. i open my trunk, my hood, the passenger side door, and the light stays on. when i ended up putting the key in the door and manually locking and unlocking it the light went out. shut the door, hit the button again, no problems. on my way into applebees, alarm goes off again. door light is back on. i dunno what the problem is, so i just make sure everything is shut again, and manually lock the doors and go into applebees(i love the buffalo wings). when i come out, the alarm isnt going off but the headlights are flashing, and the open door light is on again. ummm...well i unlock the door and then lock it with the button, and then unlock and the lights stop flashing, i get in and drive home, lock the doors with the button, and no problems at all. my alarm system is weird sometimes. check all connections.

oh and by the way, when it said i had a door open even though everything was closed, the interior light didnt come on like it would if the door was really open. only the light on the dash came on.
