I was going to say get an external gauge, until you said your overdrive wasn't working. hmm, how does that connection work? Even without the gauge the overdrive should work so that tells you it's something with the chip.

I was reading about performance chipping and learned that the speed governor and rev limiter were all vital, if the wrong part went the speedo wouldn't work and the computer or transmission wouldn't know what speed you were going. So it may be something in or around the computer.

Re: speedometer help

I don't think that the speedometer and overdrive are related, mainly because the computer doesn't control the 700r4. I guessing there is a loose connection somewhere between the VSS and the speedo, because it's not completely dead. Maybe check all the wires and see if everything this how it should be, look for a eaten through wire or a connection that's little bit loose. When the guage doesn't work does the needle drop and not move at all, or does it kind of hover or shake a little?

I hate transmissions, just thinking about it...when I replaced mine. You can get under there, unhook the torque arm, remove the driveshaft and drop the crossmember by a jack and you will have better access in there. First get under there with a flashlight now and see if anything looks disconnected like Nate said.

Re: speedometer help

the computer does control lock up though. Which it bases off of the vss. The computer doesnt do anything with the speedo though. Not directly anyways.....i dont think......Did you match your vin to get the right vss for your car? I would also check the grounds for your cluster. Grounds and connections in general.
