Sealed VS Ported
Going into a truck bed, should i get a sealed or ported box? 15'' Kicker L7. it said the reccommended box size for a ported box with that sub is 3.0-6.0 cubic feet. so how big should it be if i want it LOUD? and how many/what size ports should i put on it? ill be running a Kicker 800.2 on it.

Re: Sealed VS Ported
Are you going to be porting this straight into the cabin or just having the subs sit in the truck's bed?

Re: Sealed VS Ported
Then it's not going to be loud no matter what you do
That's like wanting a really bright room and buying the brightest lamp on the market, only to stick it in your closet and close the door.

Re: Sealed VS Ported
^LOL thats a good one.
You can do sort of a duct shaped like a horn, that mounts around the sub or the port than duct that into the back of the cab. That would be the only way i can think of getting the bass from the bed to the cab wothout major construction.

Re: Sealed VS Ported
damnit. why does this have to be so comlicated with a pickup truck. so the bed is totally out of the question, unless i want to have it routed into the cab. and now the cab is out of the question because theres no room. i dont have much money to work with here. what do you guys reccomend i do?

Re: Sealed VS Ported
It sounds like you've already ruled out all of your options...
If you want big bass in a pickup then you need to either make it so the rear seat is completely useless or put the sub(s) in the trunk and cut a passthrough into the cabin. Most people just get a small underseat sub, that's about the best you can do without going extreme.

Re: Sealed VS Ported
What is the layout of the interior, buckets/bench. Like i said in the other thread its possible to build a box to go in between the seats. Or if its a bench build a box that fits on the seat.
Its not that complicated for the bass through design. All you need is sawzaw, 3/4 mdf, lots of screws and silicone. And if your getting a toneau cover for the bed you can either strap it to the strap hoops or bolt it to the bed of the bed. Use some extra mdf to make a tunnel that goes around the outside of the sub and into the cab. Use left over silicone to seal any gaps between the mdf and silicone. I know it sounds ghetto, but ive done it on a 91 ranger, and its one of your only options. Regualr cab trucks arent the greatest for a system.

Re: Sealed VS Ported
for loud systems, the bigger the box the better. with my manual for my sub, it gave box size recomendations for the aplication you were looking for, space saver, everyday, spl. and know that the bigger your box is, the less power your sub needs to run. so dont fry it!

Re: Sealed VS Ported
well, reccommended box volume for a 15" Kicker L7 is 3.0-6.0 cubic feet. id be runnin a kicker 850.2 amp. what would be the best setup for spl with a little sq? i can have the box made at a woodshop because someone that works there. so i should use 3/4 mdf plywood, but i dont know how big the box should be or the port(s) for that matter. help me please.
EDIT:how would i know what 50-55 Hz is in relation to box size/box voulme?

Re: Sealed VS Ported
Ported for SQL, as for materila 3/4 MDF or HDF if you can find it, MDF should be fine $20 a sheet from lowes. As for the tuning of the box, lets say you have a box thats 5.5cuft, and you want it ported to 50hz. You get the different enclosure tuning from different port volumes. I dont know the exact number im sure paul, balls, or vinny would know. Theres programs that will help you to get the basic idea of what size box you need, port volume, and so forth. Ususally port volume is changed by port length, width, diameter in round ports. Slot ports seem to be better.

Re: Sealed VS Ported
well, my sub manual actually tells what parameters to use for certain setups. port size, length, box volume, etc. for spl, go with the largest recomended box size. as for port, im running a 4 inch port thats about 9.25 inch long. its tuned to about 35hz. the box is 2.5cuft total, about 2.25 of airspace.

Re: Sealed VS Ported
well, since 6.0 is the biggest reccommended box volume by kicker for the 15" L7 i guess thats what id go for. i just hope i dont blow the sub by making the box that big running it with the 850.2 should it be ok?
