Emblem flipper on the trunk

I own 91 TC. I realized that the emblem fipper on the trunk was rickety. Yesterday,I tried to fix it and found the cracked piece of spring. I think replacing whole flipper is best however, I could not find the way how to remove from trunk. There was no article about the removal of emblem fipper on the Chilton manual.
Does anybody have idea how to remove the emblem flipper??

Thank you all.

Ryotan

I don't have direct reference, but it seems to me that the whole lock cover assembly should be bolted on from the inside of the trunklid. I can't imagine the parts being sold seperately.

Maybe I'm on the wrong subject, but I don't know what's an emblem flipper.

Maybe a photo ??

Steve, I am not sure if your model year town car has it, but I know mine does. On the truck lid, covering the key how, there is a piece with the lincoln emblem on it that if you do not use any of the trunk buttons to pop the truck, the emblem is on a swivel and it moves so you can unlock the truck.

Yeah, that's kinda what I thought a 'flipper' was...

I don't think that cover is replacable seperately once it's broken off. I hear of this problem infrequently around here, but from memory the whole assembly (swivel cover & cover base) is replaced as a unit.

I'll have a look at the 1992 manual in a minute to see if it's in there. I don't have a 1991 manual.

Re: Emblem flipper on the trunk

OK, here's the scoop.... I was wrong earlier, sorry. You can't remove the cover from the inside of the truck lid.
It's done from the outside by drilling out the two rivets, do your magic to the cover assembly, and re-install using new pop-rivets.

Removal and Installation

1. Open luggage compartment deck lid.

2. Drill out two rivets retaining sleeve and cover of lock cylinder to deck lid outer panel. Remove sleeve and cover.

3. To install, reverse Removal procedure.

Hello Rotan

Yes Steve is right about drilling out the rivits. It all comes off as one unit you will have to remove the trim on both sides as well, since they slide over the ends of the lock cover piece. I've got one of those covers left. let me know if you need one. [email protected]

Thanks Mike

Re: Emblem flipper on the trunk

In the 1997 model year they did away with the flip away lid for a normal hole to the key cylinder. It still looks the same but doesn't flip up. You could probably make it fit on any 1990-1996 Town Car.

Mine doesn't work and I never use it, so I use the remote or keypad.

I really don't care that it isn't functional, but it looks like shit.
