89 350 water pump problems , need help asap

i got a 89 sierra 3/4 ton 2wd with the tbi 350. i went to vip to buy a new water pump and the one they gave me has a paper in it that says that it is a reverse flow water pump. i think i read somewhere that they started that in 92 , so what im thinking is they gave me the wrong one cuz my truck runs like crap now but its not overheating ( or maybe my gauge dont work right ) does anybody know if its normal or reverse ? i need to know cus i need my truck for work everyday and everday i drive it so i dont wanna blow it up

The difference is serpentine vs std belt drive, recheck with the parts house as to what they gave you.

My 90 350 TBI uses a reverse direction water pump (serpentine belt).

Serpentine is a wide belt that runs all the accessories, as mentioned make sure they gave you the right pump. Check the part number with the parts house, if you do not have a serp belt system it takes a std rotation pump. Also make sure the fan clutch is good and the blade was not installed backwards.

Are you sure you do not have a serpentine belt? I looked this up on acdelco.com and rockauto.com and a 89 3/4 ton with 350 only listed serpentine replacement belts.

Also, if you had the wrong pump, you would have overheated since the pump would have been turning in the wrong direction.

positive. i dont have ac. i got this little skinny belt . the paper that came with the water pump said it was a reverse motion water pump and that if put on the wrong vehicle it would either not pump at all or it would only pump a little water through. i dont think my temo gauge works very well and i dont drive my truck much everyday and i keep the heat on so i dont really know how to tell if its overheating. when i let it run for a while i squeeze the top hose and dont really feel much coolant going through. the bottomc one is usaly luke warm while the top one is wicked hot. i chedcked my oil for signs of a hg leak thank god that hasnt blown yet. i need to knwo for sure i got the wrong pump before i go into vip and yell at them

Your instructions are telling you it is a reverse rotation pump, it's wrong. Ask the parts house if they are paying for the labor!
