TB usable tire size

i have the 17" rims and p245/65/R17 on my TB sadly i did not know that the hunt for affordable tires would be impossible to say the least, i ended up buying 4 used tires (80% tread depth left) for $245.00 US, opposed to over 800 dollars for the most affordable set.

i did however find P265/70/R17 for less than $100.00 US a tire, these are stock OEM for the Ford expedition. would these tires have fit ? the tire dealer said no way but after parking next to an expedition i relized that info might not have been correct!.

whats the input from the informed here?
Joshua

Mash the numbers in here: http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html
From the looks of it, those 265/70's would be 2" bigger in diameter. I'm pretty sure you'd have fitment issues with those. You could safely go ~0.5" bigger in diameter, but that top balljoint is real close.

Re: TB usable tire size

On the wifes 02 TB we went from the stock 245/70/16 to 265/75/16. Big jump. Looks alot better personally. Now if I could get the front up 2 inches to level it out id be happy. The spindle does rub very slightly on the very outer edge of the tread blocks. Enough to put small grooves in the side but its way up by the tread not the sidewall. Not sure about the 17s though. My advice is have them mount one up and try it. Thats probably the best way to know for sure. Most tire shops dont have a problem doing that for a possible tire sale.

Re: TB usable tire size

I just recently installed 255/70/16 Yokohama Geolandar A/T-S on my 02 4WD TB LT. I bought my TB used with the same size Goodyear Tracker (sucked!!), so I knew they would fit. But, I would be hesitant to go any larger for fear of rubbing in tight turns or extreme suspension travel.

By the way...Yokos are AWESOME! They rate as high as Michelins for about 2/3 the price, they look really aggressive and knobby, with literally NO road noise and superior handling characteristics on all terrains, in all weather! I have TRIED to bust these tires loose, with no success!
