Brake problem
I haven't had any abnormal brake problems on my '98 Windstar until this afternoon. My husband has changed the brake pads numerous times in the 100,000 miles that we have had this car (bought it with approx 45,000 on it).
On my way home from work today, there were torrential downpours with a LOT of water on the road. My traction control kicked in once for a brief period (that thing frightens me!). After I got through the water, my brakes stopped working properly. They were spongy and the pedal goes to the floor to get the car stopped. I made it home the rest of the way fine, by keeping my distance from everyone. The hubby looked at the brake fluid when I got home and it was just above the minimum line. he filled it to the max line, and we pumped the pedal for a while. He moved the car up and down the driveway, but still no change in the brakes. Could the water have done that to the brakes? Could the water have made my master cylinder go out? He had to leave for work, so we didn't have any more time (or daylight) to mess with it. Up until the trip home in the rain, I haven't had any problems braking.
Any help you can give would be greatly appreciated!!! Also, thanks to everyone out there that contributes to this column. It has been a lifesaver at times!
