Tail light assembly corrosion

Hi guys,

My left turn signal starting going nuts and sporadically flickering really fast. Then it just starting blinking fast all the time.

I changed the burnt out DRL and rear turn signal bulb, but no change.

I was pretty pissed cuz I'd waited till I couldn't stand it blinking so fast only to find out that that wasn't the problem.

When I pulled out the tail light assembly again, I took a close look at the contacts for the bulb itself and at least 2 of them have corroded!

Anyway, tail light assemblies are pretty expensive so I wondered if anyone knew how to change just the sockets in the assembly so I can save a few bucks fixing it. That is... if it is even possible.

Any suggestions?

Try cleaning it up and putting some dielectric grease on it. Depending on the type of connector you can get most of them a the parts store.

If you are reffering to the 99', thiers no parts at your local store for these.
Other than buying the inner part(that holds the bulbs) from a dealer or used from a salvage yard.
Which the later would probly be the same bad condition.

These tail lights leak in water bad.
Take it apart and clean all the rust/corrosion out.
Then use that dielectric grease to keep them clean.

I hav a pic of what the inside looks like . tailhousingapart .

Use some good silicone sealant when you reassemble them.
Paying special attention to the top area where the water come in.

I just got done fixing my left tail a few weeks ago, same issue

It is the '99 SE v6 3.4.

I'll give it a try with cleaning and sealing.
