turbo / stroker

So theres this kid in my class.. and ive been saying one day im going to get a gsx project, which I will.. but anyway... hes saying how his "american muscle" will rape any eclipse I ever have, and im going to prove him wrong.. what I want to know is what I should look for in a turbo, what size, etc. and should I stroke it if I plan to make 500+ hp? I mean will this be good for the 1/4 mile? I have a decent sized list full of supporting mods and stuff, I just dont know what turbo I should get or what to look for in a turbo. It may be about 5 or 6 years until I get this near completion but I just wanted so info on the turbo bit and all these places talkin about trim and w/e is pretty confusing..

Re: turbo / stroker

My GSX with the mods listed is a hell of a lot faster than my Mustang...

Re: turbo / stroker

It all depends on what your goals are for the car. The bigger the turbo and the more air you plan on flowing, the more factors you are going to need to think about. There are people who will swear by anything so the most important thing is to know what you are after because otherwise you will be rebuying bigger, badder parts as your focus shifts.

Going stroker is nice and extremely helpful if you want to go with a monster turbo but if you are looking "to beat muscle cars" even a 14b will do. I posted my initial response to make the point that "to beat muscle cars" (like my Mustang GT) really doesn't take as much as you think.

I read about someone on another forum that ran a high 11 pass on a 14b...

Re: turbo / stroker

It's not to hard to build a car that will smoke most american muscle out there. A good goal is to set yourself up to beat a stock 03/04 cobra or maybe a cobra with intake/exhaust mods. IF you can beat one of those cars than you can beat 98% of the cars on the road, Including any 05 and below vettes, camaro's and what not, even if those cars has simple bolt on mods. But you don't need a stroker and a monster turbo to beat those cars. A 16g with supporting mods should do the job rather well.

Re: turbo / stroker

its not all turbo, definatly plan big if you want over 500hp. as you get higher each HP gets harder to gain. my car for example put down 528whp thats with a turbo thats rated at 630hp. alot of that is lost due to my stock intake mani.

the thing to remeber is to start out small. you seem to be rushing with out knowing what you are doing...heck, you dont even have a car yet. just hate to see a car blow up.

i also hate to say it but you american muscle buddy is probally right. there are a hell of alot 10sec or less V8s only about 3% or less of the actual DSM commmunity can say they made it into sigle digits. V8 is also such a broad term, thats like saying all blondes are hot.

10.6 is a far way from 10.3
