CRV 2004 Transmission

Recently experiencing probems w/ my 2004 CRV - 30,000 miles. The automatic transmission is down-shifting into first gear after I stop rather than down-shifting while breaking to a stop.

Anyone have similar experiece? If so, did any other problems arise with the vechile? I have been a Honda owner for 20 years and this is the first time I've encountered serious problems with a Honda.

Hi, Your problem may be caused by a faulty or mis-calibrated Throttle Position Sensor. This can cause the Engine Control Module to think the accelerator pedal is slightly depressed & the car is supposed to accelerate or cruise as apposed to coming to a complete stop. I would take the car to your Honda Dealer for a more complete diagnosis & have them "scan the computer" for any trouble codes. Judging from the mileage you stated you have on the car, it should most likely be covered under warranty.

You are right on target. I brought the car to the dealer today, and they replaced the Electric Load Detector (ELD). It seems as though Honda published a dealer newsletter in 2005 alerting them to this issue.

The sensor was replaced and everything seems to be working fine. The Tech found an issue with a code #P1298.

Thanks for your help. I have never experienced any difficulty with my Honda's over the past 20years and this was unexpected.
