Recently experiencing probems w/ my 2004 CRV - 30,000 miles. The automatic transmission is down-shifting into first gear after I stop rather than down-shifting while breaking to a stop. Anyone have similar experiece? If so, did any other problems arise with the vechile? I have been a Honda owner for 20 years and this is the first time I've encountered serious problems with a Honda. |

Re: CRV 2004 Transmission
Hi, Your problem may be caused by a faulty or mis-calibrated Throttle Position Sensor. This can cause the Engine Control Module to think the accelerator pedal is slightly depressed & the car is supposed to accelerate or cruise as apposed to coming to a complete stop. I would take the car to your Honda Dealer for a more complete diagnosis & have them "scan the computer" for any trouble codes. Judging from the mileage you stated you have on the car, it should most likely be covered under warranty.
I hope this helps you out. I have been a Honda tech for a long time & have encountered a few of these before. Good Luck. -Alan. |

![]() Importech, You are right on target. I brought the car to the dealer today, and they replaced the Electric Load Detector (ELD). It seems as though Honda published a dealer newsletter in 2005 alerting them to this issue. The sensor was replaced and everything seems to be working fine. The Tech found an issue with a code #P1298. Thanks for your help. I have never experienced any difficulty with my Honda's over the past 20years and this was unexpected. |
