99 Safari fuel pressure regulator

Hi, can someone please tell me where the Fuel pressure regulator is on this van. It's a 1999 4.3L. I'm hoping I won't have to take off alot of parts to get to it. I just want to pinch the hose if I can to check it. I have no fuel pressure and have already changed the filter because it's cheap and a maintenance item. The engine will start while spraying quick start into the throttle body but will not stay running on it's own. I just want to do a quick check to see if that's the problem. The fuel pump was changed just last year and I'm thinking (hoping) that it's not the problem. Any other suggestions besides checking the voltage to the pump (measures 12.4V)?
Thanks,

Can you hear the pump running, did you get a fuel pressure gage on it?

Yes I can hear the pump running and No I did not get a guage on it but I know the pressure is low by opening the shrader valve the fuel just comes out with very little pressure. I just need to know where the regulator is. Do I have to take off the plenum? Can I check it quickly without taking off alot of parts to get to it?

Yes under the plenum, but start by checking the fp, unless you want to see if ther cpfi unit is leaking.

OK, Thank's, I'll put the guage on it tonight. What is "cpfi"? Is that the actual fuel injector unit? How do I check if thats leaking?

Vortec or center port f.i., a centralized injector unit branches out thru tubes to intake ports, you will see, signs are fuel puddling in the manifold, clean areas that are a result of fuel wash down.

Re: 99 Safari fuel pressure regulator

OK, I put the guage on it and got 12psi of fuel pressure. I also disconnected the return line from the pressure regulator and plugged the end with my thumb but there was no change in fuel pressure. Is there another way to check the regulator?
Any other ideas... anyone? I'm thinking of hitting the wrecking yard to get a whole gas tank with the fuel pump to replace the fuel pump. I think it's kinda against the odds the pump that is in it now only lasted one year.

Re: 99 Safari fuel pressure regulator

Have I checked everything? With only 12psi does that mean I have to replace the fuel pump or is there something else I can check and how?
Thanks.

Re: 99 Safari fuel pressure regulator

If your injector unit is not leaking and you blocked the return line, 12 psi is a bad pump, weak wiring or ground or a blocked filter. Pay attention to the pump connector at the tank, they are known for melting.
