MK4 Golf Problem with lock

Hi Guys,

The lock on the driver's side of my Golf MK4 just went loose all of a sudden.

I went to open the door and instead of all the locks opening nothing happened!!!

So I opened the passenger's side door to open all locks and it was ok.

However, when I lock and unlock using the switch inside all is fine - including the driver's side door lock...

I opened up the door's panel and tried to get to the lock knob bit and see where the problem is - as it is most likely to be a mechanical problem, but I just could not get to that part...

When I took the internal door panel off, there was a metal panel on the inside which is attached to the window of that door... from there I just could not get any further to determine where the problem is...

Can anyone help? It will be greatly appreciated... thanks...

Re: MK4 Golf Problem with lock

If the key just spins in the lock instead of locking/unlocking you need a new lock assembly (and you can transfer over the painted cover)

Re: MK4 Golf Problem with lock

Hi veedubmechanic,

Thanks for the reply.

The lock does not spin.

When I turn the key to the point when the locks are supposed to open, the lock just springs back...

When I turn the key to the point when the locks are supposed to close, the lock does nothing...

Therefore there is no spinning... Any further ideas?

Re: MK4 Golf Problem with lock

Replace the door latch and the black plastic bracket for it.
